Call for Comment – Updated Health Star Rating Calculator and Style Guide

Recommendation 10 of the Health Star Rating (HSR) five year Review Report from the HSR System Five Year Review (Review) was that guidance material be revised and strengthened, providing greater certainty for stakeholders.

The previous Guide for Industry and Style Guide have been combined into one document. The draft updated HSR Calculator and Style Guide incorporates changes to the HSR system arising from the Review, including decisions made on the HSR five year Review Report by the Australia and New Zealand Ministerial Forum on Food Regulation (Forum). The draft document has been independently reviewed and updated.

This draft HSR Calculator and Style Guide is intended to provide clarity on the full and correct use of the updated HSR system and has been designed for use by food industry. It outlines overarching Principles of the HSR system, steps required to determine a HSR Score and assign a Rating to a food and beverage product (product), and the presentation of the HSR Graphic on the product packages.

  • A ‘call for comments’ document providing context and prompt questions designed to guide your comments (Please note this stakeholder engagement process does not provide an opportunity to revisit any decisions already made with respect to HSR system five year Review).
  • The updated Health Star Rating Calculator (Please note the HSR Calculator is currently in excel version only. An online form is being developed and will be uploaded to the HSR website prior to implementation).
